And so it begins …

The road to ultra-madness! Oh my word, this is just so crazy on sooooooooooo many levels. Why Oh Why? 100 km? I’m planning on a 100 km race?

OK! Hang on! Let’s bring a little bit of ‘real’ into this dream. It’s a new year – and who wants to trudge into a new year with feet/dreams dragging along behind? That’s no way to start a new year. ‘New’ is all about moving forward and yes, I’m fortunate enough to be able to do that. Whatever unknowns are ahead – well, there’s absolutely no point worrying about what ‘might be’ or what ‘might happen’. It’s time to take opportunity in both hands and throw it high into the clouds … it might turn into rain, it might bounce right back, it might be carried away or it might float. Whatever it does, it’s there to be enjoyed one way or another.

And I plan on leaping into this year with a whole host of challenges that are ‘just out of reach’ – because if you’re not stretching for something then it’s just too damned easy.

Last year I was able to list a whole host of achievements … saw numbers on the weight scales I’ve never seen before (in a good way), my fitness got so much better, kickboxing gradings went well, I passed a karate grading that I never thought possible – and boy, did I have fun with those nunchucks along the way … and I ran a marathon – even with my trashed knees!!!  I also discovered my first trail run – and I can’t wait for the next – not to mention my first full year in a job that I just can’t get enough of!

This year I’m planning on doing all those things again – but a step further. At the very least, I’m going to reach for them. There will be no room for problems; only challenges. Bring it on, I say!

Kickboxing? Oh yes …………….. ‘challenge’ is a good word.

Karate? Erm ………………. it’s the Sensei who’s got the challenge on his hands with me as student!

Marathon? Oh God! Here’s to major MAJOR leg-strengthening as this year’s marathon is ………….. a training run!

Hang on! Did I just say that?

Oh yeah …. there’s the small matter of a 100k!

… moving swiftly onwards …

Let’s go for it! What are YOU aiming for this year?
