Took the ramp. Landed with a headache.

I thought the pre-season tasks to the 12-week programme would never start. Now I’m getting nervous that there aren’t enough of them. The start line is approaching and I seem to have slowed to a very slow crawl. In fact, I appear to be side-stepping, so not moving forwards at all. This is not a good place to be! The last time I posted I was heading at break-neck speed for a bloody great ramp! Well, I can tell you now that I failed to dodge it, had to bend knees, tuck in and schuss!...

Bugger!

Took a wrong turn on Friday night. It’s now Tuesday and the downhill is getting steeper and steeper. Crap! Just spotted a ramp at the bottom and the speed at which I’m heading towards it is more than a little hair-raising. Bracing myself for a big fall! Hope to God there’s a pile of something useful to land on. A trampoline would be nice … the bounce back up would be easy, but I think I’m kidding myself. More likely going to be a big pile of poo … sounds about...

No toys left in my cot …

Who says toddlers are the only ones who have tantrums? I can proudly – or not so proudly – lay claim to a massive tantrum yesterday morning. It was so bad I couldn’t even bring myself to blog yesterday. I swear I must have thrown every single toy out of my cot!! Luckily it was a seafront cot … nobody else around, which meant there was no-one else in the firing line. Lucky for them lol So I’ve been struggling with what I think is a most undeserved injury and it’s...

Naughty magic!

It was tough getting up this morning. The trouble with being really careful with one’s nutrition and training plentifully (is that a word???), is that as soon as one is invited for dinner the result is a complete and utter MESS!! Or is it?? It was ba-a-a-a-a-a-d!! I mean, I was full from the ‘nibbles’. The meal hadn’t even started!! Not good, eh? But, I have a rule that’s a very personal one – not one that would particularly suit anybody else. I don’t...

J.F.D.I.

Who’d have thought that four letters could make the difference between a good workout and a great workout? Oh, how feeble we are. I find it absorbingly fascinating how easily our brains can decide what we should and shouldn’t do … and how easily it can be told to shut up and get a grip just as soon as we’re aware of what it’s doing. The human brain … well, mine at least … has got to be the worst-behaved, illogical and self-destructive bundle of tissue...

The path to Betterdom!

The flag’s gone up and thousands of inspirational, motivated and committed thrill-seekers tumble towards the start line signalling the launch of Michelle Bridges’  2012 12wbt programme Round 1. Today,  the first pre-season task has been opened up. It seems so basic, so simple – but I’m reminded of something I’ve been telling my clients over and over for the past months:  A dream will always be a dream until you write it down. Then it becomes a goal! I love this idea...

All the Ks: Kettle bells, Karate + Kilometres + Kickboxing

After the disappointment of knees giving in at the first hurdle, things are looking up – and looking ‘up’ is about all I am able to do today, since ‘standing’ up appears to be out of the question – well, not without a lot of old-lady moaning and groaning. Ouch, but everything hurts now … all in a more or less good way, though. My kettlebell half-hour of two days ago has caught up with me – the swings, the lunges, the squats, shoulder presses, snatches...

I’m very bad at resting!

I’ve been to the osteopath. She’s kindly reminded me that perhaps the fact that IT bands in both knees are screaming is a plea for me to stop running on them. I’ve promised I will. Next year. Just a couple more challenges to face and then … then I’ll stop running. I’ve promised not to run for four weeks! I’ve promised I’ll row instead – or spin. God, I’m such a liar! I’ve already failed miserably. But not too, too, tooooooooooooo...

I will not be beaten …

I will NOT be beaten at the first bloomin’ hurdle, I say. Argh! I hate this, I hate this, I HATE this! Sometimes I just wish I was one of those people who hated exercise and was content to sick on my backside all day playing ‘slob’ and not caring about anything in the world. But I’m not one of them! I’ve always been active and always been competitive. I thought I’d lost that competitive edge but apparently it keeps creeping up in conversation and I have quite...
